These are the names of the Montpelier men killed during the First World War

Dozens of men from one corner of the city lost their lives during the First World War, including one soldier who died just two days before the Armistice.

As many as 43 servicemen from Montpelier perished on the battlefields of France, Belgium and beyond between 1914 and 1918.

Some were as young as 18 when they died.

One of the most devastating stories is that of Private Charles Davis Mayell, 32, who died in Egypt on November 9, 1918, just two days before the Armistice and the end of the war.
