ASK THE DOCTOR
Season final *** three stars
8pm, ABC

Telling us more of what we already know and really should have done something about by now, this motivational trio tackle the new smoking: sitting. Unless you’re a full-time aerobics instructor you will probably relate to at least one of the three guinea pigs who submit to 24-hour monitoring of their sedentariness. The good news is, as Shalin and Sandro enthusiastically demonstrate, the problem can be turned around reasonably quickly with minimum effort.

Ask the Doctor.

SMARTPHONES: THE DARK SIDE
**** four stars
10pm, SBS

Dismiss the impact on the mind of that pocket-sized portal to social media at your peril. As reporter Hilary Andersson discovers in this alarming documentary, some of the people who helped create the beast knew exactly what they were doing and won’t let their children near it. Of course this horse has well and truly bolted, and scare tactics aren’t likely to have any real impact on our techno-habits. But hearing a few harm minimisation tips from insiders can’t hurt.

THE BIG BANG THEORY
****1/2 four and a half stars
8.45pm, Nine

Just because the nerds are all paired off shouldn’t mean this faultless piece of sitcom machinery should grind to a halt. Surely there are endless laughs to be gleaned from Sheldon the Dad (as was more than hinted on Young Sheldon), Sheldon the father-in-law, the grandfather? This final season is as fast and funny as it ever was. Tonight’s battle of the sexes over a super-asymmetry experiment is a typically Sheldon take on a classic sitcom conundrum.
