Cena is one of the most polarising figures in WWE history as he holds legions of fans but also has a lot of haters who never accepted him as the face of the company.
Every time The Champ makes his entrance to the ring he gets a chorus of cheers and boos while a number of fans chant: “John Cena sucks”.
The 16-time world champion learned to embrace the hate and decided to have a little fun with it during the show, in which he appeared with Bumblebee co-star Hailee Steinfeld, celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey.
TV presenter Graham Norton said he never interviewed a guest that has their own theme music and so the ex-WWE Champion thought it would be a good idea to have the host, the fans and his fellow guests sing his critics’ chant.
Cena said: “It’s kind of an audience participation thing.
“It’s a catchy tune, lots of brass.
“And the WWE audience is very excited and very dedicated and they sing along with the brass.
“And the chorus is: ‘John Cena sucks’.
“It’s their way of showing they like me…?”
Cena’s theme song then started playing and the fans as well as Norton, Steinfeld, Oliver and McConaughey sang the unflattering song.
The former World Heavyweight Champion will hear that chant a lot during the holidays as he returns to action on Boxing Day at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The 41-year-old grappler will come back for WWE Live and will perform in various non-televised RAW and Smackdown house shows.
His only televised appearance will take place on Monday Night RAW on January 7 in Orlando, Florida.
Cena’s most recent wrestling bout took place at WWE Super Show-Down in Australia where he teamed up with Bobby Lashley and defeated Kevin Owens as well as Elias in a Tag Team Match.
