Woman arrested over Kawakawa home invasion that injured an elderly woman

The incident, which happened on January 9, left a 92-year-old woman requiring medical attention after two women allegedly stole property from her home.

Detective Senior Sergeant Rhys Johnston said police had had a “pleasing response” from the public following an appeal for information about the offenders.

“We’ve been contacted by several members of the Mid North community who have provided valuable information and we want to thank those people for their assistance.”

A 24-year-old woman would be charged with aggravated burglary and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, Johnston said.

She would appear in the Kaikohe District Court on Tuesday.

Further enquiries by Northland police resulted in the woman facing six additional burglary charges in relation to previous incidents.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the home invasion investigation and Police are following strong lines of enquiry in relation to a second offender involved,” Johnston said.
